I built my career as a painter primarily selling my work through galleries for last twenty years. I worked with wonderful galleries in big cities all over the country including Detroit, Nashville, Seattle, Chicago and NYC. So when I left my last gallery behind in 2009 it was then that I began to look at Etsy.com with new eyes. It was a struggle in the beginning to find a way to fit into an online environment that seemed so feminine and craft oriented but it didn't take long to discover Etsy as a great way to connect with all kinds of people from all over the world who love hand made things.
Between Brenda, Rose and I, our family now maintain three different Etsy shops. We really appreciate how Etsy has helped us develop income streams to keep us going as a family of full time working artists. We have found ourselves within a new movement of artists who are learning how to use the internet to go directly to art collectors without the the gallery.
We were contacted by the folks at Etsy about this time last year that they were interested in making one of their portrait videos about our family. We saw this right away as a wonderful opportunity to share what we are about with a larger audience. So it is with great pleasure that we share the result of the hard work of our new friend from the Etsy.com team, Tara Young. See her blog that goes with the film here.
