Brenda and I have been married now for 24 years. We were young adults just out of art school when we met and fell in love. Right from the beginning we were determined to find a way to keep producing art. We were intent on creating a life style around creativity and exploration. When we had our first child four years into our marriage, this was put to the test.
We now have six children with one now living on her own. Our youngest two are 8 and 9 and at this stage of our parenting, Brenda is begun to find more time to return to some of the creative pursuits of her youth. This past winter she created a painting routine that begins around 10AM and goes 'till lunch time. With in this regular rhythm she has created a whole series of breath taking paintings that are like spirted dances with color, pattern and texture. Brenda loves working in the garden and the natural forms of the flowers and leaves are very evident in these new paintings. Though these are nonobjective paintings, they vibrate with the same verdant energy and pulse one finds upon close examination of a cluster of flowers or branch of leaves growing in the backyard garden.
Brenda is at a mature stage in her art making that is truely inspiring for the way it has come to embody so much of her longings for beauty and desire to nuture. These pieces speak to the eyes and heart with a potent emedieacy that could even be life changing. You may see these paintings up close in real time at our next Beerhorst Family Spring Art Show May 4,5, & 6th 10AM-8PM 106 Fuller Ave SE Grand Rapids MI. We look forward to seeing you here.
