The first thing I did this morning was kill two rabbits. I had Pearl set them aside in a separate cage yesterday to make them ready. This morning I was prepared to follow through with a very difficult task. I love our rabbits and they are beautiful. I know it is holy ground to enter into taking the life of an animal. I experienced that once again this morning.
I love my family and I have a keen sense of my responsibility to provide for them. Breeding meat rabbits is one of the ways I have chosen to provide. Tearing through the cellophane of a packaged piece of meat from the grocery store and taking the life of an animal you have bred and raised is a very different experience.
Life is full of difficult choices. Often times we shrink back from the more difficult opportunities and stick with what offers the least resistance. When we begin to teach ourselves to enter the deep end of the swimming pool where our chances of drowning are much more likely we end up with lives much more worth living.
