We love mini-roosters
Monday, June 4, 2007 at 6:55AM I woke up this morning with the the plan of doing my personal devotional time with a loaded 22 air rifle by my side. We have a big ground hog that has been helping himself to our garden. I want to stop him. He didn't show up this morning but the rifle is still loaded(with the safty on) resting in the corner of the dinning room.
The picture with this entry is Dove and Rain keeping company with our little bantum rooster. We thought we had six hens but it seems that this one is actually a male. He has begun to crow in the early morning which sounds kind of like a teenage boy who's voice is just beginning to change. We are afraid that our little rooster will soon have to leave.
Our home is becoming an urban homestead. It is seeming like the most natural thing to encourage nature to have a life in the city. We want to bring some of the things we love about country life together with what we love about city life. We believe that the present American food systems and life style with its heavy dependence of fossil fuels is not sustainable and vulnerable to collapse. So with this in mind we would like to be apart of a national movement to develope new models of healthy living and sustainability. Our back yard vegtable/herb garden and chicken coop come out of that vision.
We are having a lot of fun and adventure in this present journey.
