My picture taken by Micah Bloom

This picture was taken at the Cornerstone Festival last month by my friend Micha Bloom. Micha makes great music, takes wonderful photos and is also a very acomplished painter. It was great to reconnect with him at the Fest. That festival has almost become like some kind of strange and wonderful family reunion for our family.

I often fall into sour moods in the evening hours. I have asked God to help me move out of this pattern. Tonight I am blogging as a way to press towards the positive. Doing something creative often seems to help me puncture these big black balloons that cloud my vision. I read once that Picasso only felt free from his demons when he was making stuff. (Hence, he made a lot of stuff)

Brenda took the two little girls to the park after dinner. I washed up the dishes and cleaned the kitchen and now Rose is making blueberry muffins while the CD player blasts out the Bowman sisters music. Shepherd is drawing at the table now that it has been wiped and dry.Dove was'nt home for dinner. She went swimming at a friends back yard pool in a different part of the neighborhood.

I streched 4 canvasses today 16"x20". I cut the strecher bars out of second hand two by fours a contractor friend dropped off a few months back. I am hoping to do some field studies with my little portable easel before the weather turns too cold. Some times it helps to paint out side seeing what I can see. Panting outside scenery helps keep me fresh. Julia Camron talks about doing things that are fun for her as a way of "restocking the pond" for her writting ideas.

We bought a new digital camera today. It is a Canon PowerShot A640. It is quite a step up from what we have been using so we are pretty excited to get back to adding new photos to our flicker site. Oh Boy is Pearl ever excited!

Hey Rick,

Thought I'd drop you a line and say hello. You've been on my mind a little recently. I hope you're doing well.

Nice picture, too.

Take care,
Steve

Dear Rick:
I've been thinking about you and just read your blog re: falling into sour moods. I wonder if you are physically exhausted from a day filled with creative work and caring for all the people in your life. I was reminded of a section of Dallas Willard's book RENOVATION OF THE HEART. He writes: "Rest is one primary mark of the condition of Sabbath in the body, as unrest is a prmary mark of its absence. So if we really intend to submit our bodies as living sacrifices to God, our first step well might be to start getting enough sleep. Sleep is a good first use of solitude and silence. It is also a good indicator of how thoroughly we trust God. The psalmist, who knew danger nd uncertainty well, also slept well: 'I lay down and slept; I awoke for the LORD sustains me' (Psalm 3:5-6), and he also said, 'In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for Thou alone, O LORD, dost make me dwell in safety.' (Psalm 4:8) I will pray for rest and sound sleep and peace for you and your dear family. We love you.

hey rick.
paul and i think you are great. it seems like we keep missing each other around town. but i know that we'll catch up again soon.
i hope your garden is going well.
i do really like that photo. it would make a great photo to put into publications when people write stories about you. it captures your frontiersman qualities and also your gentleness.
cheers.
