I can't see
I can't see what to do next and I am stuck
I try to write a song but quite 'cause it's too hard
I read out loud about Abraham Lincoln and his life but it is
too tall.
I begin to clean the kitchen
I start some pastry dough and set it aside to rest
I check email and read an inspiring passage
from a friend
I can't see
the way I used to
it doesn't work
it used to work but not anymore
I see different now
I make my kids mad without meaning to
I can't hear my life partner
because my ears are stuffed with wax
I can't see
I need a new way because the old
way stopped working

Hello, Rick--Many kind thanks for your wondrous site. I was first seized by your work on the cover of a Stanley Hauerwas book some time ago. I am so taken by your art in all its forms. I'm an artist and writer, also an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church who has been fortunate to carve out a path that enables me to pursue my creative work full-time. (This involves raising my entire income myself--quite the adventure--so I understand and appreciate the challenges regarding sustenance that you have shared in your blog.) As someone living at the intersection of art & faith, it is a gift to find your work; it is bread for my journey. I'm especially fond of your painting "humming bird girl"; as a young girl, I spent much of my life with my nose in a book (still do), and wanted to be an ornithologist... Many blessings to you and your family in this Christmas season. May the new year bring many gifts for all of you, and everything you need to sustain the wonderful work that you and your family offer to the world. Peace and gratitude, Jan Richardson
Thank you for stopping by Jan. I visited your web site and am interested in what I see and read there. The personal retreats with phone calls is cool. My wife Brenda and I are going off from time to time to reconnect with God and our selves. Early morning are times for reflection and journaling.
I have just recently begun to read the bible again after a long break.
I felt like I had been reading it my whole life and if I could just begin to actually live just a teaspoon of what I had taken in over the years my life would become more potent, deeper color. Some times you need a little distance to get a better look.
