the letter I can't read
Friday, October 30, 2009 at 9:59AM
I love getting letters and I even like writing letters. I like the delay of putting a letter in the mail box and then two months latter getting a reply maybe. Every thing else seems so instant with the i phone and email and a telephone call... It feels healthy to be made to wait a long time for a reply. I also enjoy the physicality of opening a letter and the potential for little things to fall out on the table, like a dried flower or a Polaroid or maybe a little drawing. Some times a letter may even carry a scent from a smudge of oil. With this post I have decided to begin to send letters again. The winter season is good for letter writing and savory soups.

I'm joining you (in the letter writing.) A wonderful resolution!
I just re-read all the Little House books, made me think of how much people used to anticipate letters, wait for them, savor them.
We loved getting the card you sent us recently. It does feel special - of course it was a beautiful card. We will stop by soon.
I agree 100% letter writing is fast becoming a lost art.
I used to correspond with an Irish artist when I first got into mailart in the 80's ans it was ajoy to open his letters as all kinds of treasures would drop out, some intended but not all!
I loved sending him pictorial letters, and lots of decorated envelopes with pressed flowers....ah bliss.
