Plan B was our attempt to bring attention to the fragile state of our current cultural life support systems. We wanted to get people talking about the fact that we are quickly running out of the limited supply of fossil fuels that we are completely dependent on. With Plan B we asked people to think about our future.
Plan B was awarded the Best Use Of Urban Space Award by celebrated new urbanist Jeff Speck. We created our project with the help of some 30 different volunteers. The instalation included a three bike powered electric generator, a sand and gravel water purifier, homade tents constructed from tree limbs and billboard vinyl. The encampment was created downtown Grand Rapids MI during ArtPrize along the bank of the Grand River.
We had a working kitchen with rocket stoves for cooking and a lot of good donated local foods to prepare meals to feed the volunteers. We had at least two people sleeping over every night during the two week duration of the event.
