I had a conversation with some men friends over breakfast yesterday regarding love. Ryan mentioned he twittered "Love is not a feeling it is an act of the will" yesterday and got a confused response from a woman who asked; "but how about falling in love?" Ryan said that he responded saying that what she was referring to was a feeling and not that same thing that he was talking about.
From here the conversation went down the road of how the various fellas around the table had come to understand keeping a love relationship alive with their various partners had a lot more to do with renewing a fundamental commitment to that person than it had to do with that mysterious "I've got that loving feeling" that comes and goes like Michigan sunshine. Renewing the commitment to love may be as simple as bringing her a cup of tea because you know she likes that even though you may still feel dull inside towards her. It may be these simple actions that we make our self do that can eventually tug our feelings into the right direction.
I can't help but see art making in a similar light. I often do not feel like drawing. I don't feel particularly creative but regardless of that uninspired feeling, I set myself down with paper and drawing tools, get some music playing, sip a cup of tea and launch in anyway and 45 minutes later I am "feeling it". Love may simply be a game of follow the leader.
