Today we say good by to 2011 and hello to a brand new year full of possibilities and new adventures. A lot has happened over the past year in our home. Rose Beerhorst moved out and into a big old house with a group of her good friends. There is now one less plate to set at the dinner table. We had Rusty Zylstra move out of the Carriage house loft and Rachel McKay move in and then move out to join Rose at her new house. Rosie R moved out and Brad Hartness moved in and then he moved out just yesterday. Ryan Brady is thankfully still with us and continued to rock the ink this year.
Shepherd spent a lot of hours of digging and building in Minecraft. He also had countless adventures with neighborhood friends throughout the year. Shep is amazing when you ask him for help with something. He nearly always is willing to drop what he is doing and pitches right in with out a grumble or a heavy sigh.
Pearl got a new camera and pushed deeper into film making releasing some real humdingers on her Vimeo account. She continued taking good care of the animals on a daily basis as well as cooking a lot of really tasty meals for the family. Pearl Sophia means wisdom and she has it in spades.
Dove got to go back to Camp Henry last summer which meant a great opportunity to put some more polish on her exptional people skills. She also opened up a savings account as a place to put all the money she has been making with her bake sales. She also has a new job helping out Mrs. Beaumont with her little ones.
Grace created some really wonderful drawings again this year and even sold one at the Fulton Street Artist Market last summer. She has to wrestle her siblings for her computer time which just never seems long enough to her. We need to get a video up of Grace dancing 'cause she can bust some pretty incredible moves.
Rain still holds her place as the youngest member of the clan but she is definitely getting bigger. She is really enjoying her friendships with the children next door. In fact there is a sleep over planned for tonight and I know that for Rain these are one of her favorite things.
Brenda opened up her Etsy shop and has already sold a number of her paper rug patterns. She has also recently begun a new series of abstract paintings that we are all very excited about. You can see them here. Brenda has been a big help to me in countless ways this past year but one thing I am particularly thankful for is her encouragement for me to continue with my tenure with Leadership Grand Rapids. The program felt pretty awkward for me in the beginning and I thought seriously of quitting. Brenda encouraged me to stick with it and I am so glad I did because through the program I have come to know some really great people. I also have learned a lot about our city.
Thank you for reading my blogs this year. When we rebuilt the website I made up my mind to try to write a blog six days a week and see where it might take me. Thanks for all who have come along for the ride and especially for those comments. It means a lot to me to have your participation here. To all those reading and to those who will find us here in the future, have a great new year.
