Trying to get past obstacles is a big part of what our life here comes down to. I have a quote that is pasted to the cover of my beat up old Message Bible that says;
"Keep on struggling. Keep on standing up. Keep on speaking out and reaching out."
The word art includes this in its definition in the Noah Webster 1828 dictionary, "The radical sense is strength, from stretching, straining, the primary sense of strength and power, and hence of skill."
Perhaps all art making comes out of trying to get over the hurdles in our life. You may say artistic growth is then born out of the straining and stretching to reach just beyond our limitations and human shortfalls. There is a deep yearning within us all to be healed, to be more of what we were intended to be in the first place. We just want to come home. The art we create are like the little white stones we drop behind us as we follow the dark winding path through the forest.
