OK I have watched this video all the way through several times now, pulling all my family members and house mates over to watch it with me and now I am sharing it here with you. I don't know about you but I want to go up to the higher ground too.
The Playing For Change project contiues to show us music's unique potential to bring people together. They are mostly not writing original songs but using material that has been out a long time and shared around the world, songs like Stand By Me, Don't Worry, and One Love. They are doing this material in a way that is like hearing it for the first time because of the sudden larger context of going all over the world at once in the space of one song and several musicians.
I think the aspect of music happening mostly out side on the street or the beach is important here as well. I have had many of my own experiences playing music out on the street and there is nothing quit like it for the way it gets musicians their music to be at once intimate and real and face to face in a way that will just never happen up on a stage. I am not saying this is better but just wonderfully different and a very worthy pursuit.
If you like the Higher Ground video you may want to look through some of the other ones they have made here.
