This show aired back in October 2010. It was a sobering message when I first watched almost 2 years ago. Watching it again on a day here in Michigan when we are expecting triple digit temperatures and farmers are watching the corn in their fields shrivel up to nothing makes the David Letterman segment a real kick in the pants. It makes me wonder what kind of shortages of food we can expect this fall. It makes me wonder what it will take to get our political leaders to begin to address this issue of climate change in a direct way. Actually, to be honest I don't expect anything from our political leaders any more. I no longer think that leadership is coming down from the top. I think real leadership emerges from the bottom where regular people live their day to day lives.
I am watering our micro urban farm every morning tugging a hose through the dust and straw. We have already lost a rabbit due to the intense heat. We will be looking to make the animals comfortable and well watered today for sure. I think it is time to get the root cellar in order at our house again. Even now I am asking God for direction as to how to prepare for the days ahead. God have mercy on us all.
