This photo is from a summer maybe five years ago. Our daughters Rose and Pearl (Rose on the far left getting ready to take flight and Pearl in the faux indian dress and crown in hand.) The two girls in the middle had just moved back from China and they are the Bouwsma girls. The girl on the far right having the Marylin moment is life long companion Rose Shaw who as it happens has since become a frequent crust punk train hopper after a stint at the Art Institute in Chicago. We had just moved back from Brooklyn NY and the girls were glad to be back in MI and exploring old haunts.
We had packed a suitcase with old vintage dresses and accessories. The girls had the day before making paper crowns complete with paint and glued on buttons. We loaded up a borrowed car and drove down to the Grand River. There is one small island just down river from the city that you can access climbing down a make shift ladder leaning against one of the footings of the ancient rusting train trestle (still used every morning an evening by Amtrak). We had a lot of fun that day and if you are interested in seeing more of the pics you can go here.
