Brainard Carey is a conceptual artist and artist mentor who specializes in helping artists develop income strategies. This is a tremendously important work since hundreds of thousands of students graduate from art schools all over the world every year who have been mentored by academics who typically have little to no idea how an artist can successfully navigate the market place of the art world after graduation. You simply can not give away what you do not have. People like Brainard have stepped into this gap to provide valuable information that can really help an artist build a practice that can be sustainable and life giving for the long term.
Last Sunday I did an interview with Brainard on Yale's radio station where helped me to share my story of how I made my way to becoming a full time working artist supporting a large family in Grand Rapids MI, far away from the large cosmopolitan art centers of Santa Fe, NYC and LA.
