"Being in the art world is really, really, really hard and most people do not make a living being an artist." -Adam Weinberg, Director of the Whitney Museum of Art
Mr Weinberg will be in Grand Rapids to speak at the GRAM January 29th in conjunction with the Emily Fisher Landau collection. This is going to be a knock out show of many of the most ground breaking contemporary artists that came on to the scene since the 1960s. Ms. Landau, now in her 90s, not only collected these works of art but developed close relationships with many of these artists.
I love Mr Weinberg's quote above (from MuseeMagazine) because I have found it to be true to my experience. It is affirming to hear this message come so emphatic and clear from the mouth of a person at the helm of one of the most important art institutions in the world. It is the unrelenting work of people like Ms Fisher Landau who help to keep contemporary artists encouraged and moving forward.
