This woman doing her hair in front of the mirror comes out of strong current in my work that has to do with my persistent interest in the feminine world. My father grew up with seven sisters, I had four and with in my own family and I have been married to the same woman presently going past twenty five years with whom I have had five daughters. All of this living among women has helped my to appreciate my own masculinity which has been more deeply defined by contrast.
The mysteries of gender boundaries either imagined or real have been a subject of great questioning in our culture over the course of my life. It may be helpful to know that I also lost my mother unexpectedly when I was nine years old. One day she was there and the next she was gone forever. I sometimes think that this event set my course to be an artist.
