Ed Fraga is going to be speaking at UICA this Friday night January 24 at 7PM on the fourth floor. He will be sharing stories and insights into the work of Mary Ann Aitkin still on view until February 16th. The next day at noon Ed will be at my Carriage House Studio (106 Fuller Ave SE) with some of his work to share.
I have known Ed for many years and I continue to be inspired by his unique way of expressing his spiritual longings through his art. I particularly appreciate his use of unlikely and almost worthless materials from the everyday world that come into his work and are thus transformed by his unique alchemy into something exotic and almost supernatural. Ed Fraga is an artist who is successfully building bridges from the seen to the unseen world with every piece he lovingly creates.
Speaking of bridges, a while back I asked the question on my Facebook page; "Can we build a cultural bridge from Grand Rapdis to Detroit?" Perhaps these events are two more pieces on that very bridge.
