I need regular sleep. I am an early to bed early to rise guy for sure. I usually get a little nap in after lunch. If I start losing sleep and my schedule veers off, I get a little bit crazy. It seems to happen every time. There are times when I just wake up and it's way too early (like the 2AM) and I don't even feel tired. In that case I just go back to bed and lay there as still as possible. I either try to keep my mind blank or I will begin to pray for the people in my life and before long I am usually sleeping. If I let my mind go into problem solving mode then the gears just keep turning and turning.
We after all we are creatures, and we have some basic needs that are best attended to. Good food, regular sleep and tight roof that sheds water are the basics.
I love the story of Jesus sleeping in the boat, with his disciples wide awake in the middle of a terrible storm - that has seasoned fisherman scared out of their wits. They wake Jesus up, he rebukes them and the storm and both are humbled to silence. I'd like to grow to be more like that, able to sleep without the worries.
