Tomorrow night at the East Grand Rapids Library we will be the dedication of the painting The Student I created especially for the library. I had been working with the theme of young ladies holding books for the past couple of years so it was great when I was approached by the Friends Of The Library for a commission.
The East Grand Rapids Library is built right on the shore of Reeds Lake which at one time had a large amusement park called Ramona Park. I have included the park in the back ground of the painting. Even though the park has been gone for a long time it is as if its ghost still haunts the neighborhood in many ways. For me there is a curious relationship between work and play. It's as if they really must be balanced off each other. Some times we learn best and make our most important discoveries when we are just "playing around".
Come and join us for the dedication party tomorrow night. It goes from 6-8PM . There will be yummies from Gaslight restaurants and our band the Wealthy Orphans will be playing. Come and make some new friends!
