We were given the full collection of the Little House On The Prairie series a couple weeks ago by a friend. The timing was perfect because I had just begun reading to the little girls at bedtime again. I have done this off and on over the years from the time Rose and Pearl where little up to today with Rain and Grace now 9 and 11 years old sharing the upstairs attic bedroom. In addition to the Little House books we are reading through the Gospels beginning with Matthew a chapter a night. (The Bible is amazing when read out loud. It's a lot like the piano tuner hitting the tuning fork.)
It is such a good thing to be able to read through a book out loud and have it become a shared social experience. The girls always have lots of questions and their questions help me take time to think more deeply and share what I know, what I am coming to know and in the end we all learning together.
We as parents want to be close to our children as the children want to be close to their parents and yet it seems like there are so many ways we get pulled apart and the connections foul out. I am thankful for the night time reading time for the way it gives us a time to come together again before we all end one more day.
