Lately I have been using Pinterest to collect images that inspire me. I like the way this platform allows me to organize my interests with different categories. It is a simple way to make collections of the things you love. These inspiration boards are what many of us were doing with scrap books and with pinning up our favorite pictures on our bed room walls as teenagers. I notice that I tend to spend a lot more time hunting for new images than actually going back to look through what I have collected so this morning thats what I did and I share a few of those paintings above.
I love to take the word inspiration back to it's root meaning which means to "breath in". I know I need to breath in new images in order to make new paintings. This is what Julia Cameron, the writer on creativity, refers to as "restocking the pond". Every now and again I go out to our compost piles and move the contents around to keep it cooking itself into soil. Poking through my Pinterest boards this morning was a little like turning compost. I have been reading and watching movies. I have been making bouquets of flowers from the garden and taking walks through the neighborhood. I know inspiration comes in all sorts of ways. It begins with hungry eyes and an open heart.
