No man is a failure who is enjoying life. -William Feather
Failure is only the opportunity to begin again more intelligently. -Henry Ford
You always pass failure on your way to success. -Mickey Rooney
Our business in life is not to succeed, but to continue to fail in good spirits. -Robert Louis Stevenson
I was going all over the house this morning trying to help Shepherd find his English composition book. He was very upset because his teacher had made an announcement that any student who came to class with out it would be marked tardy each time. We looked and looked and never found it. I finally went to the grocery store on my bike and picked him up a new one for a dollar. He went off to school still very upset. The whole episode this morning with the lost note book reminded me again of how our lives are so utterly soaked through with failure on so many levels. This can make us feel bad on a regular basis. So we simply must cultivate an attitude for living our lives that makes plenty of room for failure.
Shepherd has never gone to school in his life. His school career began as a fifteen year old boy who has grown up in a very free and self directed environment. It would be difficult to imagine anything more different from how he has grown up and where he is today at Grand Rapids Central High school. Shepherd has taken on a huge challenge. A large margin for failure will be necessary to go along side exuberant growth. Shepherd needs plenty of encouragement in order to sustain the sting of failure and really, don't we all?
I have begun my post with some cool quotes from some very successful people who where successful because they developed a healthy attitude towards failure. I hope as you read through them you will be encouraged to keep moving forward through your own personal challenges.
