I wrote yesterday about feeling burned out because that is how I felt after a little too much ArtPrize hubbub. I spent a fair amount of yesterday looking through some of my art books. I cleaned up and organized my studio and then settled into drawing on my old couch with my drawing board in my lap and my art bin next to me on the floor. I had Pandora fixed to Jonathan Richman so I was pretty much set.
Drawing is one of my favorite things to do because I love that feeling of adventure that comes with a brand new piece of good paper and a few very sharp pencils. All my paintings begin with drawing. I have come to think of it a little like drilling for oil. There are no guarantees that you will hit oil but you never will if you just sit around thinking about it. You have to get your hands dirty and do a whole lot of drilling before you hit something good. Every once in a while you might even hit a gusher.
