I had the pleasure of hanging out with my daughter Rose last night. She continues to be an inspiration to me. She is in the process of carving out her own niche in life with a steady determination that would make Joan of Arc proud. And yet along with her strength and clear vision, she knows when to share her need for comfort and support. She also has the strength to be vulnerable when need be.
Rose is using her hands to craft one of a kind textile pieces that she sells close to home and around the world. At the ripe old age of 19 she has moved out of our home and set herself up in a house with a group of close friends who all share a commitment to a creative life style. As a father I couldn't be more proud.
In a world where women are often left at the mercy of the insipid content of a Cosmo magazine cover, I see Rose Beerhorst as a member of a generation of young women ready to take back what it really means to be a woman. Read her blog post Up In Arms and hear her battle cry.
