Art is by its very nature enigmatic. What does it mean? What is it for? Purchasing a piece of art is very different than replacing the roof on your house or saving for your children's college education. I think that the community of Grand Rapids has often been defined by its traditional and pragmatic nature. Though we are sometimes referred to as the city of churches, these local churches are places where mystery has little room alongside well organized worship services and well stocked food pantries.
I believe a creative cultural environment is essential to the cities' well being. If we allow artists into our places of work, worship, and play, we will be able to find a better balance between our deep seated practical nature and our equally strong desire to be creatively free and child like.
If you can, join us today at AMDG Architecture Suite 300, 25 Commerce downtown Grand Rapids at 12:30 City As Muse presentation I will be giving. It will be better if you are there with us. (Come early to get a good seat and meet a new friend.)
